Most beautiful money in the world?
The Lighthouse
Until the introduction of the Euro, the Netherlands had (arguably) the most beautiful bank notes in the world. Daringly modern, feauturing pictures of everyday items. Most notes had a nickname: the Grouse, the Sunflower, or the Lighthouse. (picture) The latter got its name from a famous lighthouse at Nieuw Haamstede, Netherlands, upon which the design was based.
The designer was Robert Deodaat Emile "Ootje" Oxenaar, who designed several more very modern Dutch bank notes between 1966 and 1985.
